Embark on an adventure

Why not let your dog carry his own food and water? The Ruff Wear Approach Pack is an excellent everyday dog backpack with high performance, fit and functionality. Give your dog a load to carry and a job to do and generate instant four-legged motivation.

The integrated harness enhances fit, pack stability and overall performance. Radial cut saddlebags create a passive compression system that is form fitting and better load carrying. Combined with the lightweight materials and a streamlined design, the Approach Pack is comfortable and allows dogs to carry their own necessities.

The padded assistance handle and top-loading stash pockets are appreciated by humans, and lightweight construction and strategic padding keep canine sidekicks comfortable over the miles.

ON SALE ARE 2016 COLOURS (CAMPFIRE ORANGE) FOR $50 OFF! NO QUALITY DIFFERENCE, JUST LAST SEASON'S COLOUR. GRAB A BARGAIN.
(LAST ONE AVAILABLE - XX-SMALL SIZE ONLY!)

If you have a dog who is more energetic than you are a dog backpacks may be an excellent solution. Dog backpacks are a training method often recommended by Cesar Milan Dog Whisperer. When your dog doesn't get enough exercise behavioral problems can follow. When wearing a pack you dog will get more exercise for your money. I was very surprised the first time i put the Approach Pack on Pluto. She took to it like a duck to water. Like most dogs we've encountered she enjoys the importance of doing a job.

Pack Weight & Capacity

X-Small: 0.8 lb (0.36 kg) / 6 Litre capacity
Small: 1.05 lb (0.48 kg) / 12.5 Litre capacity
Medium: 1.15 lb (0.52 kg) / 14.5 Litre capacity
Large/X-Large: 1.3 lb (0.59 kg) / 24 Litre capacity

It's recommended that your dog carry no more than 25% of their body weight in their saddlebags. If your dog is new to dog packs, start with a light load and work up to a heavier load as your dog gets accustomed to wearing the pack.

My dog hated this at first - she was frozen on the spot when I put it on her. A few treats and pats later she loves it and happily runs and plays with it on. The only thing is, it is quite wide so she is still getting used to banging around doorways etc. The best part - when I take it off her she feels so light and energetic that she sprints around in circles. Needless to say this backpack is great exercise. Ella, Leichhardt NSW

A nice slim pack, the padded harness sit snugly and seemingly comfortable on my terrier (a medium sized x breed). The strong handle on top is great to grab on to should i need to lift him up and over fallen trees, rocks etc. The saddlebags are sewn onto the harness, which makes it a little tricky to get it on and off when full but it also means the bags are not going to fall off as he tears through the Australian bush. He carries a 650 ml bottle of water (could carry up to a litre on each side easily) and a large ziplock bag of kibble each side in the main compartments and poop bags in the smaller compartments. Measured him as per the website and it fits perfectly. Best to put it on once, empty, then adjust straps while someone else feeds them treats. It's very good quality and fits well, he is more than happy to have a job to do while hiking with me. alison telford, Frankston VIC

I love this little backpack for my little dog!! She can carry her own water and poo bags :)
It sits nicely above her shoulders and not on her back so a little bit of weight doesn't hurt. She walks freely with it and doesn't seem to mind wearing it.

What a fantastic backpack! I bought this for my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to wear while we attempt to earn our Associate Working Pack Dog title. The backpack is a perfect fit, easy to put on and take off, and the pockets are nice and roomy - plenty of room to add weights (I'm using rice). An excellent product - highly recommended. Got this for JRT 5.5kg in weight fits him perfectly but had to clip the pockets as they are quite big. Very solid item looks like it will last a long time. Magda, Sydney NSW

MichaelHigh quality pack, sits nicely over her shoulders. Our 1yr old Border Collie just wears it with a few poop bags and our keys in it, but it still tires her out quickly! Won't be putting weight in it until she's older, but I can see it will get a lot of use on the trails. Would recommend it to anyone!

The Ruffwear Approach Pack has helped my 63kg rottweiler concentrate of his 'job' and not chase every distraction that presents itself. He enjoys wearing it and treats it like one of his new toys.
